NSW Football Referees CODE OF ETHICS

The NSW Football Referees Inc believes that the responsibility for the ethical conduct of football in NSW rests equally with referees, players, administrators, coaches, spectators, media, educators, parents and government.

The duty of the referee is to act as an impartial judge of a football game.

The NSW football Referees Inc believes this duty carries with it an obligation for the referee to perform with accuracy, consistency, objectivity and the highest sense of integrity.

The NSW Football Referees Inc recognises that to preserve and encourage confidence in the professionalism and integrity of refereeing, referees must foster ethical behaviour.

· Place the safety and welfare of the players above all else.

· Show concern and caution towards sick and injured players.

· Give all players a fair go regardless of their gender, ability, cultural background or religion.

· Be impartial, consistent, objective and courteous when making decisions.

· Accept responsibility for your actions and decisions.

· Condemn unsporting behaviour and promote respect for the individuality of players.

· Avoid any situations which may lead to or be construed as a conflict of interest.

· Be a positive role model in behaviour, personal appearance and your comments should be positive and supportive.

· Be a good sport. Actions speak louder than words.

· Always respect, remain loyal to and support other referees.

· Keep up to date with the latest Laws of the Game, trends and principles of their application.

· Emphasise the spirit of the game rather than the errors.

· Refrain from any form of personal abuse towards players or other referees.

· Refrain from any form of sexual harassment towards players or other referees.
